Wooroloo Bushfire

Arson Squad detectives have charged a 40-year-old man in relation to the Wooroloo bushfire that occurred earlier this year.

Around 12:00pm on Monday 1 February, a bushfire in the vicinity of Harper Road, Wooroloo was reported to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

Due to adverse weather conditions the fire destroyed 10750 hectares of bushland, 86 homes and numerous sheds, vehicles and livestock.

The incident resulted in a joint investigation involving WA Police Force Arson Squad and investigators from the DFES.

It will be alleged the man used a mechanical device to remove a padlock on a sea container located on his property subsequently igniting a fire.

It is further alleged the man did not take action to prevent the fire starting as is required during catastrophic fire conditions.

A 40-year-old man from Wooroloo has been charged with:

  • One count of Breach of Duty
  • One count of Carry out an activity in the open air that causes, or is likely to cause a fire.

He was refused bail and will appear before the Northbridge Magistrates Court tomorrow, Saturday 17 July 2021.
