After a four years' break due to the pandemic, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will open its gates for visitors again. On Saturday, June 17, 2023, 10.00 to 19.00 hrs, KIT's Campus North near Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen will present excellent and relevant science to look at and join in and to talk about in a time of technical changes. The program with more than 200 offers addresses the entire family and is complemented by musical, comedy, and quiz numbers on the central show stage.
"KIT shapes the region and the region shapes KIT. This close relations between science and society is a major driver of our work at KIT. On June 17, we would like to continue this dialog and celebrate together with the people living in the region," says the President of KIT, Professor Holger Hanselka. "The 2023 Open Day will be a great get-together for the entire family and provide numerous insights into our work that addresses the great challenges of humankind and fascinating problems of science. In addition, we are happy that our Open Day marks the start of the EFFEKTE Science Festival."
Science to Experience
The more than 200 offers on the Open Day of KIT will cover a large range of research topics from A - Astroparticle to E - Energy Transition to Z - Zebrafish. It is not only the size of the exhibits that will vary considerably, ranging from the 3D printer to the particle accelerator. Visitors are also invited to attend various types of events, from guided visits to exhibitions to hands-on experiments. Numerous scientific presentations will be given on socially relevant issues, such as future energy supply, climate, and sustainability. A "bird's eye view" will also be offered. Every 30 minutes, bus tours will be offered on the Campus that covers an area of 2 km2 where a guide provides important information in a nutshell.
Offers for Children and Young People
A rich program is offered for curious kids, including experiments at the institutes, lectures of the Children's University, the quiz shows 1, 2, or 3, and the popular science rally. Young people and their parents will have the opportunity to inform themselves about study and training programs offered by KIT.
EFFEKTE Science Festival
Auch in diesem Jahr bildet der Tag der offenen Tür des KIT den Auftakt zum Karlsruher Wissenschaftsfestival EFFEKTE. Um 13:00 Uhr werden Karlsruhes Oberbürgermeister Frank Mentrup und der Präsident des KIT, Professor Holger Hanselka, das einwöchige, an verschiedenen Schauplätzen der badischen Metropole ausgetragene Festival eröffnen.
Falling Walls Lab
A stage, a fascinating project, and three minutes to present it to the audience. Students and young researchers will present their research concepts at the Falling Wall Lab Baden-Württemberg. A jury of experts will then select the best presentation. The winner will represent Germany in the Fall Walls Lab final in Berlin.
Music and Comedy
A funny and entertaining program will also be presented on the central show stage that will be located near the central roundabout of Campus North. The experiments of science comedian Konrad Stöckel will make the audience laugh and wonder. The International Choir of KIT, the Walking Band, and the students brass band KAmpus KApelle will entertain the visitors with their musical contributions.
Snacks and Beverages
All along the "Festmeile" (festive mile), and at some other locations on the Campus, visitors will be offered a large range of snacks and beverages.

Use Public Transport Means
All visitors are requested to use public transport means, as parking spaces will be scarce. No parking space will be offered in the direct vicinity of Campus North. In addition to scheduled services, shuttle buses will operate between Campus North and the parking spaces indicated.
