At the start of October, the Ballarat Animal Shelter had 63 dogs in the shelter.
The Shelter called on Ballarat to come and meet their new furry friend and consider rehoming a dog into their household; 27 homes have since added a dog!
Being able to rehome 27 dogs over two weeks has enabled the staff to continue the high level of care that the shelter provides for all the animals in the facility.
Nearing the end of the month, the Animal Shelter still has 33 dogs in their care and 14 of those are looking for new homes.
The Ballarat Animal Shelter looks after animals that have been surrendered, seized or awaiting their owners to collect them.
There are still plenty of dogs available, everything from a Stag mix to a purebred Labrador ready for a new home. Please contact the shelter to discuss the best suited dog for your home.
Why not consider the social butterfly, Rosie? A five-year-old bouncy Staffy who adores people and loves daily exercise, who now has made the shelter her home for more than six months. Rosie is the shelter's longest tenant and is waiting patiently for that family to come and choose her to be in their life.
Or Stormy, a four-year-old mixed stag breed who has been in the shelter since July,. She will take a few moments to warm up to you, but then will enjoy plenty of cuddles.
If you are after an easygoing dog, why not Buddy? A five-year-old kelpie mix who is a quiet boy who loves his treats and would be happy on his bed in the lounge room waiting for walk time.
There is a rehoming fee of $410 for all dogs at the Animal Shelter, which includes veterinary checks, worming and flea treatment, desexing, microchip, and City of Ballarat registration if you are from the City of Ballarat municipality.
The City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney, was astounded by the community support to rehome some wonderful canine companions.
"It has been great to see so many people spread the word and encourage others to adopt a new family member from our shelter," he said.
"Seeing so many dogs receive a second chance has been heartening, and I'm sure the humans have seen an improvement, with a dog in their lives now too!"
