2nd person charged re restaurant fire in West Morley

Arson Squad detectives have charged a second person as a result of their investigation into a fire that occurred at a Shisha bar and restaurant in West Morley on 23 September 2020.

It is alleged just before 3am, several locations within the kitchen area of the Walter Road restaurant were deliberately set alight. The fire spread through the kitchen area and into the ceiling space causing extensive damage to the restaurant.

On 27 October 2020, Arson Squad detectives charged a man who was 30 years old at the time, in relation to this fire.

The investigation continued and on Wednesday 3 August 2022, Arson Squad detectives charged a second person in relation to the fire. It is alleged this person was the owner of the business at the time of the fire.

A 38-year-old man from The Vines has been charged with:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire; and

• Attempted Gains Benefit by Fraud.

He is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 12 August 2022.
