This morning Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams and Councillors took the time to celebrate our 2023 Australia Day Award winners and congratulate them for their outstanding achievements and contributions towards the Rockhampton community.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said he was absolutely delighted to spend time with each award winner and personally thank them for their hard work.

"It was such a lovely morning. It meant so much to me that I got to sit and speak with the award winners about their contributions to the community and discuss their work," Mayor Williams said.

"Receiving an Australia Day Award is not a small achievement, and I would like to again congratulate this year's award winners."

Community and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said being able to privately recognise this year's award recipients is something he really appreciates.

"I find it very special to personally speak with the award winners and congratulate them on a personal level.

"Their contributions to our region are outstanding and often go unrecognised. So, I am over the moon to get the opportunity to thank them again.

"I would like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate a community member or group and acknowledge all the nominees. Even though some were unsuccessful this year, the hard work does not go unnoticed.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said she was pleased to be a judge again this year and review the brilliant nominations.

"It was not an easy task selecting our winners this year, with a record number of nominations being received," Cr Rutherford said.

"I am very proud and speechless at the number of individuals and groups who selflessly work toward making the Rockhampton Region a more connected, beautiful, sustainable and involved community."

"2024 Australia Day Nominations will open at the end of this year, so keep an eye out for the call to nominate your local hero."
