Minister for Education and Member for Wannon Dan Tehan said the research partnership between Federation University Australia and Ararat Rural City Council would deliver benefits for the Wannon community and demonstrate the value of investing in regional Australia.
"The Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct will employ five locally based researchers and conduct research that will lead to improved agricultural outcomes for the region," Mr Tehan said.
"This project will become regional Victoria's most comprehensive trial of an agribusiness research partnership and will create huge opportunities for Ararat to focus on innovation and research collaboration.
"This Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct will complement the Morrison Government's investment of an additional $1 billion for university research in this year's Budget and the $5.8 million to design a scheme to accelerate turning research into new products, job creation, productivity gains and economic growth.
"We are providing $900 million for a National Priorities and Industry Linkage Fund to support universities and industry to work together in areas of industry and community priority.
"Our Government has also reduced the cost of an agriculture degree so more Australians will become agriculturalists and tackle big issues through research and innovation."
