AusBiotech is bolstering its capabilities, appointing two new members to its team: Director, Industry Policy and Advocacy: and Industry Communications Coordinator. These roles are critical for AusBiotech as it drives the sector forward during a time when biotech is being recognised for the economic and social benefits it delivers.
AusBiotech is delighted to announce Mr Khaled Chakli will join the team next week, where he will apply his strong policy and scientific skills and knowledge as he champions the organisation's policy and advocacy work.
Employing his expertise in policy development, strategic communications and stakeholder relations in government, business, and in the non-profit sector, Khaled's initial focus will be working with industry on the development of the decadal strategic framework, the Biotech Blueprint. The Blueprint is an important opportunity for industry to unite to reflect what a vibrant and valuable Australian biotech industry could and should look like a decade from now, and for the industry to speak with one voice to governments.
Khaled's background includes working as an advisor to members of parliaments; Manager of Policy and Advocacy for the Australian Academy of Science; and the former Executive Director of the Australian Brain Alliance - a national body for brain research institutes and neurotechnology organisations. Khaled is an MBA candidate at the University of Melbourne, has an academic background in arts/psychology, and has studied in biomedical science.
Ms Shannan Osrin has also been warmly welcomed into AusBiotech's Communications Team as its new Industry Communications Coordinator. This role centres around membership engagement, and enhancing the reputation and positioning of the Australian life sciences industry. As well as increasing opportunities for members to offer their views and achievements, Shannan will be supporting its Advisory Groups and Committees, who provide advice and guidance on current and emerging trends.
Shannan has spent the past four years supporting external and internal communication activities at MTPConnect, including connecting with industry leaders as she produced, and sometimes hosted, podcasts, and sharing sector news through its social media platforms. Shannan holds a double degree with a Bachelor of Communications and a Bachelor of Arts from Edith Cowan University in Perth, where she majored in journalism and writing.
As the national voice of the Australian biotechnology industry, AusBiotech continues to champion advocacy and to be recognised as a persuasive, credible and collaborative voice of leadership for Australia's life sciences industry. Telling industry's story, working with governments, and facilitating sector investments, AusBiotech will ensure industry's rightful place as a key and growing economic and social driver.
