Dave Aliquo, lead athletic trainer in the University of Pennsylvania Health System, has been honored with an award for Distinguished Service from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association (PSADA) for his work directing athletic trainers for student athletes at schools in the School District of Philadelphia. Aliquo's nominator, Robert Miller, the president-elect of PSADA, said that he wanted to recognize Aliquo for being "an advocate for young people in athletics for years" and for providing care from his team not just to students in Philadelphia, but for those coming in for special events like the state championship wrestling tournament.
Lorraine Boakye, MD, an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and director of clinical research in Foot and Ankle, has been honored with the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society's 2023 Courage Award. The Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society was founded to provide support and professional development to women in the field of orthopaedic surgery, and its Courage Award is given to a society member who exemplifies courage and conviction.
Virginia Man-Yee Lee, PhD, the John H. Ware 3rd Professor in Alzheimer's Research and director of the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, has been selected to receive the 2023 Jay Van Andel Award for Outstanding Achievement in Parkinson's Disease Researchfrom the Van Andel Institute (VAI). The award honors scientists who have made outstanding contributions to Parkinson's disease research and who have positively impacted human health. The award will be presented during VAI's annual Parkinson's disease symposium, Grand Challenges in Parkinson's Disease, in September 2023.
Danielle Werner, chief operating officer of the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP), has been appointed to the Council of Regents, the legislative body of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). ACHE is an international professional society of more than 48,000 health care executives who lead hospitals, health care systems, and other health care organizations. With an understanding of ACHE's policies, programs, and services, the Council helps to advance ACHE's vision, mission, and values. Werner officially took office on March 18, 2023, prior to the organization's Congress on Healthcare Leadership.
