Structural relining of three ageing culverts beneath Bago Road near Wauchope is now complete, marking a major milestone in the broader renewal project.

Funded through the Regional Emergency Road Repair Fund (RERRF), the project is addressing significant deterioration of three reinforced concrete culverts estimated to be between 60 and 80 years old.

The culverts had deteriorated significantly, including voiding around the pipes and deterioration and movement of the existing headwall structures.

Port Macquarie Hastings Council has coordinated the broader rehabilitation project, including site access, approvals, traffic management and preparation works.

Specialist contractor Resinject completed stabilisation and void filling around the existing culverts before Interflow completed the structural relining of all three pipes.

The relining approach allowed the existing culverts to be rehabilitated without excavating across Bago Road or requiring a major road closure, helping to minimise disruption for motorists using the important local road.

PMHC Group Manager Community Infrastructure and Recreation Operations, Damien Taylor, said completing the structural relining was an important milestone for the project.

"The relining of all three culverts is a significant step forward and means the major structural rehabilitation work has now been completed.

"Importantly, this approach allowed the work to be undertaken without excavating across Bago Road, helping to minimise disruption for the travelling public.

"There is still work to be completed before the overall project is finished, with our crews now progressing the repairs to the headwalls, scour protection and rehabilitation of the surrounding site."

The remaining works include repairs to the upstream and downstream headwalls, installation of scour protection and rehabilitation of the surrounding area, including restoration of vegetation.

The overall project is currently expected to be completed around October, weather and site conditions permitting.

Port Macquarie Hastings Council thanks the community for its patience and care around the work area while these important repairs are completed.
