Baw Baw Town of Noojee nominated for Top Tourism Award

Baw Baw Shire's beloved town of Noojee has been announced as a finalist in a highly-prized annual tourism awards program. All residents are encouraged to vote now to help Noojee take out the top accolade.

Each year the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) hosts the Top Tourism Town Awards to showcase regional towns and destinations throughout the state that offer and unique visitor experiences.

Council is proud to celebrate Noojee's nomination as a finalist in the Top Tiny Tourism Towns category alongside Aireys Inlet, Fingal, Flinders, Mount Macedon and Timboon.

This historic timber town boasts a rich heritage and is home to some spectacular and well-known attractions, including the Noojee Trestle Bridge (the tallest surviving wooden trestle bridge in the State), Toorongo Falls (an impressive, tiered waterfall) and the famous 'Nooj Pub' (Noojee Hotel).

Smaller, remote communities like Noojee rely heavily on seasonal travellers to ensure their economy thrives. The region, like many, has been heavily impacted by the disruptions of COVID19 as well as severe weather events, both of which have affected visitation levels over recent years.

This nomination is a great accomplishment for Noojee and surrounds, demonstrating the town's resilience and warming the hearts of the business owners, tourism operators, community groups and residents who call this beautiful part of the Shire home.

Public voting is open now and individuals who cast a vote will automatically go into a draw to win a Melbourne getaway for two, including a two-night stay at the luxurious Sofitel Melbourne on Collins (breakfast included) and two dining vouchers redeemable at some of Melbourne's best restaurants.

Voting can be completed through the VTIC Website until Tuesday, 31 May.

"Noojee is a beautiful destination with a rich timber heritage. More than just a tiny town, this picturesque destination offers unique places to explore, eat, stay and play during your visit.

After the last few very difficult years, this nomination will mean a lot to the tourism operators, community groups and residents within the region. As a Shire we have invested in new footpaths and will soon be constructing an additional public toilet facility to make the visitor experience in Noojee even better.

We are calling on everyone in Baw Baw to get behind Noojee and vote for our beautiful Top Tourism town."
