The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that Wagga Wagga and the Riverina can expect increasing high temperatures over the coming days, and Council has several family-friendly community spaces ready to help residents and visitors keep cool.
Manager Wagga Leisure Marc Geppert confirmed that for those wanting to cool off with a swim, the Oasis Aquatic Centre offers a range of facilities suitable for all ages and abilities.
"This week's forecast temperatures are expected to rise above 41 degrees which may result in free entry to the Oasis for those days," Mr Geppert said.
"When free admission is set to apply, this information will be confirmed on Council and Wagga Leisure's social media pages the day prior and relevant details posted online."
Mr Geppert also said that "the Oasis is a great place to escape the heat, and we encourage the community to follow our social media pages for updates, noting that guest numbers will be capped onsite to ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for all."
Wagga Wagga City Library, meanwhile – located at the Civic Centre – is another welcoming space to escape the heat and enjoy air-conditioned comfort.
Family-friendly, open 7 days, with Wi-Fi available and plenty of nearby parking, the library is easy and fun to access.
Level 0 of the library offers spaces where children can read, play and be creative in the cool, while adults can relax in comfort and explore the library's extensive collection.
Also located in the Civic Centre is the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, while directly in front of the building is the Historic Council Chambers site of the Museum of the Riverina which also has another free and air-conditioned site at the Botanic Gardens Precinct.
Manager Community Services Madeleine Scully said these cultural venues are cool in more ways than one.
"With free entry to these friendly, accessible and air-conditioned cultural venues, we look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to the city to enjoy the many engaging programs and exhibitions currently on show."
