Calling on young people to have their say on future of M.R. Power Park

The City of Ballarat is asking young people to have their say on the design of a new skate park and 3 on 3 basketball court coming to M.R. Power Park in Sebastopol.

A consultation session for young people who live in the area will be held at the Sebastopol Library on 27 July for them to have their say on the design of the park's latest additions.

The session will give the community a chance to share ideas for the new space directly with the project contractor, Convic, who has been engaged to build the equipment following a recent tender process.

For those unable to attend the in-person session, an online survey will also be available via the City of Ballarat's online mySay platform following the session at the library.

The project is part of the State Government's 'Spotlight on Sebastopol' program and is one of five projects to receive funding as part of the 2018 election commitment to improve the liveability of the suburb.

The new skate park and 3 on 3 basketball court are made possible through $440,000 from the State Government through the $5 million Spotlight on Sebastopol program.

City of Ballarat Councillor, Des Hudson, said the workshop will be a fantastic opportunity for the young people of Sebastopol to have a direct say in the future of their park.

"It's so important when we are delivering projects for our community that we take the time to really listen to what people need," he said.

"By being able to deliver this project with the State Government, with input from the community, it really shows when we all work together, we can improve our city in the best ways."

Buninyong MP, Michaela Settle, said the new equipment at the park will truly reflect the voices and needs of the community.

"The Spotlight on Sebastopol project is all about putting the community first," she said.

"It is so wonderful that the design of the new skate park and basketball court is being driven by young people, for young people, so that Sebastopol can be an even better space for the next generation."
