Car stuck in floodwater at Kuitpo, South Australia

Two people were lucky to escape without injury after driving into floodwaters at Kuitpo last night.

Police and emergency services were called to a potential swiftwater rescue at 6pm on Friday 16 September.

A Ford Ranger had attempted to drive across Meadows Creek on Adams Gully Road, Kuitpo, which is subject to seasonal flooding.

The water was up to 1.2 metres high and flowing quickly.

The Ford Ranger started to get swept away before becoming wedged in a tree. The two occupants managed to get out of the vehicle before emergency crews arrived.

Fortunately, the man and woman, both aged 21, were not physically injured.

Their vehicle was stuck overnight and attempts will be made to retrieve it this morning when the water has subsided.

A timely reminder for South Australians to not be complacent about crossing fords and bodies of water that are normally dry and to pay attention to warning signs.
