The City of Hobart extends its congratulations to the seven successful candidates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly seat of Clark following last month's state election.
The City raised six election priorities during the campaign and hopes to work in a constructive way with the Clark representatives on achieving positive outcomes for Hobart.
The City of Hobart's priorities were:
- Housing: addressing housing access and affordability, with a focus on increasing supply of appropriate housing within the City.
- Antarctic and science sectors: boosting Hobart's Antarctic and Science Sectors, and the City's status as the premier gateway to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.
- Climate action: seeking an urgent acceleration of climate action and investment at state and national level.
- Community sports facilities: investing in community-based sports facilities in the City.
- Visitor destination and gateway: unlocking the full potential of Hobart as a visitor destination and gateway through investment in key sites.
- Transport options: diversifying transport options through investment in transport infrastructure and improving connectivity.
"We look forward to working collaboratively with them in the near future to address the needs and aspirations of our city and its residents," Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said.
"We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with all elected representatives to build a vibrant and inclusive future for Hobart.
"Together, we can achieve great things for our community."
The City of Hobart was also delighted to see current Deputy Lord Mayor Helen Burnet and former Alderman Simon Behrakis elected to Clark.
Mr Behrakis served as an elected member of the Hobart City Council from 2018 to 2023, and his commitment to public service has now been recognised through his election to state parliament in Clark in his own right.
The former Deputy Lord Mayor of Hobart won her seat in State Parliament after close to 20 years of public service on Council.
"I congratulate Helen and Simon on their election to the Tasmanian House of Assembly and I'm sure they will both make a positive impact on Hobart and the people in the electorate of Clark," Cr Reynolds said.
"It's a bonus for the community that these two elected members have such a solid understanding of important issues for the city."
