The City of Perth's fleet of waste trucks will get a safety upgrade thanks to support from Roy Hill.
The joint safety initiative will see state-of-the-art technology installed in all the City's waste trucks to help reduce the chance of accidents. Following a successful trial of the advanced driver assisted technology, Roy Hill has pledged to upgrade all the City's waste trucks with this safety feature.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas was thrilled the City could be a part of the ground-breaking trial and see this technology rolled out across all the City's waste vehicles to create a safer environment for staff and the wider community.
"Our waste teams work tirelessly to keep our City clean, twenty-two hours a day, seven days a week. Now thanks to Roy Hill, and this amazing technology, our team can access even the narrowest City streets and laneways effectively and safely."

Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart AO, instigated the approach to the City of Perth, recognising an opportunity to leverage Roy Hill's skills and expertise in vehicle automation to enhance safety outcomes in Perth.
Mrs Rinehart has a strong commitment to the wellbeing of people at Roy Hill, as well as many other groups. Following the passing of a friend's brother from a tragic accident with a sanitation vehicle on the east coast, Mrs Rinehart has led from the front to avoid further tragedy.
"I had no doubt that through the determination and commitment of our people at Roy a solution could be developed which will have a lasting and significant safety legacy in Perth," Mrs Rinehart said.
"I'd like to acknowledge the Lord Mayor, Basil Zempilas, for his drive in making this project a reality. Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill has a fantastic association with the Lord Mayor and the City of Perth, and this is another significant achievement we can be proud to have worked together to deliver.
"Having felt the pain of a dear friend mourning the tragic loss of his much-loved brother, I certainly hope that this new solution will play an important part in others not having to go through similar tragic circumstances."
The collision mitigation system was provided by Perth based company APS Lighting & Safety who worked collaboratively with Roy Hill engineers, including William Wright, a graduate Roy Hill employee completing a Master of Engineering thesis on safety culture, to install, test and troubleshoot the collision avoidance system.
Having been trialled over the past four weeks, it has proved to be a great success within Perth's inner-city environment. The technology gives the driver visual and audible warnings and sensors on the side and rear of the truck to avoid accidents.
"Our waste and cleansing service are paramount in keeping the City of Light shining. This technology, designed especially to prevent collisions, gives our drivers the assurance that they can get the job done safely and efficiently," Mr Zempilas said.
The City expects the roll out of the new technology will take place in the coming months following a procurement process.
