Copper theft leads to pursuit and arrests, South Australia

Great work by police this morning has led to the arrest of two men in Park Holme.

About 7.50am this morning (Sunday 22 December), police patrols were called to Johnstone Street in Glengowrie after reports a car was parked in the driveway of an unoccupied house.

On arrival the vehicle had left, but upon inspection police found a window to the property had been forced open and a large amount of copper piping missing.

With a description of the vehicle, police began searching the area and just before 9am, found the car at a petrol station at the corner of Diagonal and Oaklands Road in Glengowrie.

Police activated their lights and sirens and will allege the car failed to stop. Police pursued the vehicle but a short time later terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.

The search continued and at 9.45am, police sotted the car in Park Holme. Two men ran from the car with one immediately arrested.

A second man continued to evade police, jumping fences and running into backyards of neighboring houses. Police caught the man on Tiparra Avenue and after a confrontation, police deployed capsicum spray and the man was arrested.

The first man, a 21-year-old from Park Holme was charged with numerous offences including aggravated serious criminal trespass, drive dangerously to escape a police pursuit and drive disqualified.

The second man, a 26-year-old from Glengworie, was charged with numerous offences including aggravated serious criminal trespass and assaulting a police officer.

Both men were refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 23 December.
