Northern Territory Police issued infringement notices yesterday to a pair of travellers who failed to lodge Border Entry Forms.
The pair had entered the NT by road from South Australia at a remote border crossing and were detected by cameras at the border. While neither person had been in a declared hotspot, they were still in breach of the Chief Health Officer Directions by failing to complete their paperwork.
Police caught up with the travellers in Alice Springs, where they were infringed, given assistance to complete their forms and allowed to continue travelling.
Incident Controller Acting Commander Lauren Hill said, "Border controls have been in place for some time now, and there is no excuse not to be aware of the rules.
"Anyone traveling to the NT must lodge a Border Entry Form. If you have not been in a hotspot, if you are a returning resident or if you have a work exemption, you will be welcome. But you must file your Border Entry Form."
The penalty for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environment Health Act 2011 is $5024 for an individual (32 penalty units) and $25,120 for a business (160 penalty units).
