Explanation on failing hydrogen plan needed

Tasmanian Labor

Premier Peter Gutwein should have used his visit to Bell Bay today to update Tasmanians on the status of his failing hydrogen plan.

Shadow Energy Minister Dean Winter said Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) has had to delay an investment decision in Bell Bay due to the inability of the Gutwein Government to provide the two critical components for any hydrogen development - power and water.

"FFI came to Tasmania on a promise that the Liberal Government was ready to develop a green hydrogen industry," Mr Winter said.

"What they have found is a government that has not done its homework.

"Hydrogen proponents simply cannot get access to power or water in the timelines promised by the government's undercooked plan.

"Mr Gutwein owes them - and all Tasmanians - a legitimate explanation.

"Meanwhile other states and territories are pushing ahead with huge investments now locked in Queensland and the Northern Territory."
