Funding Secured For Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway

Labor Party

Anthony Albanese and Labor will commit $744,000 over four years to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway.

This new four-year funding commitment is in addition to the Government's existing support for the walkway, including $186,000 to be delivered in 2025-26.

The walkway was opened in 1996 to commemorate those who served in the Papua New Guinea and Kokoda Track campaigns.

It hosts thousands of visitors each year, including around 4,500 school students as part of the Walkway's free school visitation program, as well as hosting commemorative services for Anzac

Day, Victory in the Pacific and Kokoda Day.

It is a popular walkway connecting the Rhodes railway station to Concord Repatriation General Hospital.

Along the 800-metre route there are 22 stations that highlight the significance of a battle or location during the campaign.

This election commitment will help ensure education programs can continue that enable the public to learn about and commemorate the sacrifices of our veterans.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
