Calling all readers and writers! Join Georges River Libraries for Georges River Reads. Georges River Writes: A month-long program that celebrates the stories we read, tell and have yet to share.
Running between 15 May to 15 June, libraries and community spaces across the Georges River will host a diverse program of events that inspire creativity, encourage connection and celebrate the many forms of storytelling.
Book lovers can look forward to the return of the Great Big Book Sale on Saturday 30 May at Peakhurst Park Community Centre. This massive one‑day event offers an extensive range of pre‑loved books, DVDs, toys, and more, perfect for discovering new treasures.
For the community's youngest readers, visit Georges River Libraries during the annual National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) on Wednesday 27 May. This year's book, Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, will be read simultaneously in libraries, schools, and community spaces across Australia.
Rediscover South Hurstville Library on Saturday 13 June and check out its new look with a morning of free activities for the whole community. Whether you're a regular visitor or haven't been in for a while, it's a fantastic chance to explore the refreshed space, meet library staff, and learn more about what the library has to offer.
From writing masterclasses and fantasy fiction workshops, to learning Tang and modern poetry in Mandarin and meeting local authors, there are plenty of opportunities for the community to discover the power of words and stories.
"There are so many opportunities to engage in meaningful creative discussion through this program," said Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg.
"From our seasoned authors to our budding writers – this program is an exciting opportunity for all to share their love for storytelling."
