The Greens NSW spokesperson on anti-corruption Jamie Parker has condemned the NSW Government's decision to gag debate on a no confidence motion today in the Legislative Assembly.
The government moved a procedural motion to gag debate giving just two Opposition members and no members of the crossbench opportunity to speak.
Jamie Parker MP says:
"This government is so afraid of debate and discussion they gagged this motion to stop every single member of the crossbench from speaking regardless of their position.
"Every person in NSW has a stake in this and there is no more important business in the House today. If the government is so confident that the Premier has done nothing wrong they need to answer why they are stopping members of Parliament speaking.
"This is the wrong time to be shutting down debate. We need a full and frank discussion around this issue and the opportunity to represent our communities and the views that they are asking us to bring to Parliament.
"It sends a bad message to the people of NSW that the government are working to protect the Premier rather than hearing from all the sides of this debate.
"While the Greens haven't supported calls for the Premier to resign we did vote in favour of this no confidence motion because the Premier needs to hear an unequivocal message that her behaviour was completely unacceptable," he said.
