The Research Council of Finland has selected 15 new Academy Professors for 2026-2031, with funding awarded to top international researchers pursuing scholarly innovation and breakthroughs.
Of the 15 new Academy Professors appointed, seven are active at the University of Helsinki.
The funding is intended to help researchers reach top international standing during their term and to reinforce and raise the level of expertise in their field nationally.
Researchers receiving the revamped funding are expected to have a wide-ranging impact during and beyond their term, and to improve their competitiveness for EU and other international research funding.
Competition was intense, with only 6% of applicants succeeding.

Academy Professors receive funding for six years, up to €2.4 million, which covers their salary and project research costs, including salaries for research group members and travel.
