The Veterans' Reference Group held its first meeting today providing information and insights on issues relating to veterans and ex-servicemen and women to the Hodgman Liberal Government.
Today's meeting focused on a briefing on the Government's approach to managing veteran's affairs including the $100,000 Teddy Sheean Memorial Grant and other initiatives designed to support veterans and ex-serving personnel.
The group also agreed to provide input on a project to develop an active recreation project for veterans in partnership with the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service. The Government has committed $225,000 over three years to this project.
I am also pleased to announce Brigadier John Withers has been appointed as the Chair of the Group. BRIG Withers was previously the Senior Australian Defence Force Officer – Tasmania.
Other members include Ms Natalie Sankey, Mr Joshua Miller, Ms Allison Merridew, Mr Phillip De Bomford, Mr Grant Herring, Mrs Cheryl Arnol and Dr Jon Lane.
