Leah P. Hollis , a professor in the Penn State College of Education, has been invited to deliver two workshops at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior in Konstanz, Germany, later this month.
The invited sessions will focus on workplace culture, employee well-being and organizational dynamics in higher education and research environments. Hollis' presentations, titled "When Work Makes You Sick: How Workplace Bullying Undermines Health, Wellness, and Human Sustainability" and "When Fear Enters the Lab: Bullying, Power, and the Erosion of Scientific Integrity," draw on her research examining workplace incivility and organizational culture in higher education.
The Max Planck Society is one of the world's leading research organizations, with more than 80 institutes spanning the sciences, including social sciences and humanities. The organization is internationally recognized for its contributions to research and innovation and has longstanding affiliations with Nobel Prize-winning scholars and globally cited researchers.
Hollis said the invitation reflects growing international interest in conversations surrounding organizational well-being and healthy workplace environments.
"I'm honored to engage with researchers at the Max Planck Institute on issues connected to workplace culture and employee wellness," Hollis said. "These conversations are increasingly important across higher education and research environments as institutions work to support sustainable and healthy organizational communities."
The upcoming workshops at the Max Planck Institute will bring together researchers and scholars for discussions surrounding workplace dynamics, organizational health and professional culture within research settings.
Hollis said she hopes the sessions will encourage broader dialogue around fostering supportive and productive workplace environments.
"Healthy organizations depend on cultures where people feel respected, supported and able to contribute fully," Hollis said. "I appreciate the opportunity to participate in an international conversation about how institutions can strengthen workplace well-being and organizational sustainability."
Hollis' scholarship focuses on education policy studies, workplace bullying, organizational leadership and higher education culture. Her research and professional presentations have explored how workplace environments influence employee well-being, communication and institutional effectiveness.
