International Scholars' Reception

Durham University

This year's International Scholars' Reception held on Wednesday 8 March celebrated the global profile and diversity of our student body, as well as recognising the important partnerships the University maintains with a wide range of international funding bodies and sponsor agencies.

Hosted by Vice-Chancellor and Warden Professor Karen O'Brien, international scholars from the 2022/23 cohort were invited to an evening reception at the Oriental Museum.

The event celebrated the diversity and global profile of our student body, the scholars themselves, and also provided them with the opportunity to meet fellow international scholarship holders and University staff from a range of departments and disciplines. Scholars attending represented over 25 different scholarship schemes from over 33 different countries across the world.

In addition, the reception recognised the key role of international partnerships with a wide range of organisations and funding bodies, including government ministries, embassies and scholarship agencies. The prestigious scholarships awarded by the University or such partner organisations enable many international students to carry out their studies at Durham, and enrich the diversity of our student body, which currently includes over 120 different nationalities.
