IPBES received Win win award

At a ceremony for 50 specially invited guests and even more digital spectators, the organization IPBES received this year's Win win award. Win win Gothenburg Sustainability Award is one of the world's foremost sustainability awards, with a prize money of one million SEK. This year, the theme for the award has been biodiversity and it is for its efforts in that area the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, IPBES, was awarded on Thursday evening.

When the organization was presented as a laureate this spring, the Win Win Prize jury pointed out that the IPBES report "Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services" from 2019 made information on biodiversity and ecosystems available to more than just experts and researchers.

Significant prize in a significant year

As the world's first international platform for biodiversity, IPBES provides information and tools to protect, and sustainably use, nature's vital resources. IPBES Secretary General Dr. Anne Larigauderie believes that it is particularly significant that IPBES will be awarded the prize precisely in 2020 - the year when a new framework will be formed for the next decade's global efforts for nature.
"Even though we at IPBES receive this award, we do so as representatives of our 136 member countries and the thousands of researchers, knowledge holders and stakeholders who have contributed enormously to our work. This award is also their award, and this success is their success. That we are awarded the Win win Gothenburg Sustainability Award 2020 is further confirmation that scientific expertise and concrete evidence must be at the core of the decisions we make today, about our common future", said Anne Larigauderie when the award was announced earlier this year.
