A 25-member universitywide search committee has been selected to help lead a global search to identify Johns Hopkins University's next provost, the institution's chief academic officer.
The provost oversees an expansive portfolio encompassing the university's research, education, and student experience agendas, working closely with JHU President Ron Daniels and leaders from across the university to strengthen interdisciplinary initiatives and collaboration, advance research and its scholarly impact, and navigate an evolving higher education landscape.
The committee will be chaired by Theodore DeWeese, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine. The search will be aided by the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller, which will work closely with the committee to develop a candidate pool and support the process. Input and confidential nominations can be shared with the search firm directly.
The university's 17th provost will succeed Ray Jayawardhana, who departed during the spring semester after being named president at the California Institute of Technology. Lainie Rutkow has served as provost on an interim basis since February.
