Johns Hopkins University's online engineering graduate degree programs continue to rank among the nation's top 10, according to U.S. News & World Report's Best Online Master's in Engineering Programs and Best Online Master's in Information Technology Programs.

The Whiting School of Engineering's Engineering for Professionals division, which serves more than 6,000 students worldwide with online and part-time programming, maintained its No. 6 overall graduate engineering ranking (tied). It also ranked No. 8 among overall among graduate engineering programs for veterans.

Other ranked programs include:

  • No. 2 in artificial intelligence, computer science, cybersecurity, data science, and information systems engineering (categorized by U.S. News as "Computer and Information Technology")
  • No. 2 in mechanical engineering (up from No. 3 last year)
  • No. 2 (tied) in engineering management
  • No. 3 in civil engineering
  • No. 5 in electrical and computer engineering
  • No. 7 in industrial, operations engineering, and systems engineering (categorized by U.S. News as "Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering")

"EP's commitment to online and part-time program options is among the strongest in the nation, with 25 fully online master's degrees and nearly 550 credit-bearing online graduate courses," said Dan Horn, associate vice dean for professional education at the Whiting School. "As trends in the engineering and applied science disciplines emerge, and as technology evolves, EP continually refines its curriculum to match industry demands and to meet students' needs."

The Whiting School of Engineering's online master's programs include the programs listed above as well as applied and computational mathematics; applied biomedical engineering; applied physics; climate, energy, and environmental sustainability; data analytics engineering (new for 2026); environmental engineering science and management; financial mathematics; healthcare systems engineering; materials science and engineering; robotics and autonomous systems; and space systems engineering.

U.S. News ranks the nation's best online graduate programs in seven disciplines. Rankings are determined by five weighted criteria: student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, peer reputation, and admissions selectivity.

Engineering for Professionals' top-ranked courses and curricula are created by faculty members and program leadership who are experts in their fields. Instructional designers support the faculty in customizing the courses for online delivery and maximum student engagement and learning.
