Kiwi travel to Australia during COVID-19

Overseas visitor arrivals from New Zealand increased to 1,800 in November 2020, the highest number of arrivals from any source country since COVID-related border closures were imposed, according to data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

This increase comes off the back of the recently announced one-way Safe Travel Zone with New Zealand.

ABS Director of Migration Statistics, Jenny Dobak, said: "At its lowest point in September 2020, visitor arrivals from New Zealand fell to 370. For the same month the year before there were 128,000 visitor arrivals.

Although the November arrivals were historically small, they represent the first hint of a potential recovery" Ms Dobak said.

The number of Australian residents returning from New Zealand also increased.
