Light aircraft crash at Stanley

At 09:06am today, Police received a report of Jabiru single engine aircraft crash at North Point, Green Hills Road, Stanley.

The 68 year old pilot from Yolla had departed Wynyard Airport and experienced engine failure near Stanley. While attempting an emergency landing the front tyre struck an obscured rock in a grass paddock causing damage to the wheel, undercarriage and propeller.

The pilot had removed himself from the aircraft and contacted emergency services. He received suspected back injuries and was conveyed to NWRH for treatment.

Police and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau are conducting enquiries in relation to the cause of the incident.
