Look after yourself this holiday season

Canberrans are being encouraged to take some time for their mental health and wellbeing this holiday season after another challenging year.

For many, the Christmas and New Year period is a time to celebrate and spend time with family and friends.

However, for some it's a difficult time and can exacerbate feelings of loneliness, stress, anxiety and depression.

ACT Health wants to remind the community that taking care of yourself and making time to do what is important to you is part of staying healthy and well this festive season.

"Be kind to yourself and others over this holiday period and don't forget to reach out for help when you need it," said Dr Elizabeth Moore, Coordinator General of the Office of Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Canberra has faced a challenging three years that has included the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters. We know people may not have taken time yet to reflect on how they are feeling, talk to someone and seek help.

Remember there is always someone to listen and help if you are experiencing distress.
