Lynnes Road speed limit review

Bass Coast Shire Council is reviewing the speed limit on a section of Lynnes Road in Wattle Bank.

The section under consideration is from Inverloch-Kongwak Road for a distance of three kilometres towards Wonthaggi and passes through the Wattle Bank hamlet.

This review proposes to reduce the speed limit from 100 kilometres per hour to 80 km/h. Council is seeking feedback from the Wattle Bank community and other road users on this proposed speed limit change before making an application to Regional Roads Victoria.

Council has received numerous complaints from residents about road safety concerns in this area, particularly with respect to children using the school bus stop and non-motorised traffic. Several road crashes have also occurred on this section, serious enough to make it eligible for Federal Blackspot Funding.

In addition, a section of land on the south side of Lynnes Road is being subdivided into a new housing estate, with about 60 new blocks of land. This will lead to an increase in the local population.

With the current population growth in Bass Coast, a speed reduction along Lynnes Road would benefit the community from a road safety point of view, while improving residential amenity.

Reducing the speed limit will emphasise the presence of the hamlet and encourage road safety awareness, giving residents, workers and visitors a safer travel environment.
