Council, with support from local police, has removed a makeshift and unsafe creekside diving platform near Dixon Field following resident complaints.
Council and police received complaints about the structure and upon investigation found a platform constructed by cut-down trees in an area strewn with rubbish in a densely vegetated area by Jackson's Creek.
Council officers found discarded alcohol containers and evidence of firepits constructed close to vegetation. Trees in the area had been illegally cut down or damaged in order to construct the makeshift diving platform
The illegal structure has now been removed and the area made safe for the whole community to access.
Acting Chief Executive Officer, John Nevins said Council had a responsibility to ensure structures on public land were constructed appropriately, met safety standards and did not pose a risk to the community.
"Council will remove any illegal structures and reinstate the surrounding environment as required so it is safe for everyone to enjoy," Mr Nevins said. "Environmental vandalism and littering on public land is not acceptable to the Macedon Ranges community."
Macedon Ranges Inspector Chris Large said Victoria Police had been made aware of a structure that was unsafe and of concern within the community.
"Reports of anti-social activity at this site are a concern, and removal of the structure should help to ensure this no longer occurs," Inspector Large said.
