Man charged over aggravated break and enter in Wollongong

A man will appear in court next year after the aggravated break & enter of a home near Wollongong today, NSW Police say.

About 1.30am (Wednesday 19 December 2018), a man entered a home in Squires Crescent at Coledale through the rear door.

The man removed several items from the home, and after taking a knife, entered the bedroom of the residents.

The female resident awoke and the armed man demanded property from the couple.

Another adult resident in the home managed to contact police and safely hide a 9-year-old child who was also in the residence.

Upon the arrival of officers from Wollongong Police District the armed man fled while the officers checked on the welfare of the residents.

An 18-year-old man was later located inside a motor vehicle parked outside another home in Squires Crescent.

The man was arrested without incident and taken to Wollongong Police station.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

The man was later charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent, robbery armed with offensive weapon and enter vehicle without consent of owner.

He appeared at Wollongong Local court today, where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 27 February 2019.
