Man charged over supply of 'ice' and directing a criminal group, NSW

A man has been charged over the alleged direction of a criminal group and the supply of ‘ice’ and cannabis in Sydney’s south-west and the state’s north coast, NSW Police say.

In December 2015, investigators from the State Crime Command’s Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS) established Strike Force Benwerrin to investigate the supply of methlyamphetamine and cannabis in south-west Sydney.

Following extensive investigations, strike force officers executed five search warrants at Campsie, Georges Hall, Guildford, and Belmore, about 7am today.

Police located and seized cannabis, methlyamphetamine, MDMA, cash, mobile phones, and plain package cigarettes.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at one of the Campsie properties and taken to Campsie Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of drug supply, deal with proceeds of crime, and direct a criminal group.

He was refused bail and appeared at Burwood Local Court later today, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Wednesday 14 December 2016.

In total, Strike Force Benwerrin investigators have arrested and charged 11 people, executed nine search warrants and seized 1.5kg of cannabis, four ounces of methylamphetamine, $145,000 cash, seven firearms, a grenade, and plain package cigarettes.

They have also recovered two high-end stolen vehicles and a large amount of stolen property, and dismantled a sophisticated hydroponic set-up and a clandestine laboratory.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to drug supply to call Crime Stoppers.
