Man Dies After Marine Accident At Forster

A man has died following a marine accident in the state's north yesterday.

Just after 11.40am on Thursday 23 April 2026, emergency services were called to Little Street, Forster, following reports of a marine accident on the Breckenridge Channel, between Wallis Island and Wallis Point Island.

Officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District and Marine Area Command were told a 4.3-metre aluminium vessel, powered by a 50hp Yamaha outboard motor, struck a sandbank while travelling along the Breckenridge Channel.

As a result, a passenger - a 79-year-old man - was ejected from his seat and struck his head on the vessel's anchor cleat, sustaining serious head injuries.

The master of the vessel - a 71-year-old man - freed the boat and immediately travelled to the nearest boat ramp. During this time, he radioed for assistance using the onboard VHF radio, which notified Marine Rescue.

Upon arrival at the wharf, Marine Rescue volunteers commenced CPR on the injured man prior to the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics, who continued treatment; however, the man could not be revived and died at the scene.

The master was taken to Manning Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and officers from Marine Area Command have established Strike Force Yozze to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
