Man dies after Mooroopna assault

The Homicide Squad is investigating after a man died in hospital yesterday afternoon following an alleged assault in Mooroopna last month.

Emergency services were called to a supermarket on McLennan Street about 7.15pm on 22 May following reports a man had been assaulted.

The 46-year-old Mooroopna man was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, where he later died on Monday, 6 June.

A 19-year-old Shepparton man was previously charged by local detectives in relation to the incident with intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, intentionally cause serious injury, recklessly cause serious injury, assault, assault by kicking, traffick cannabis, possess cannabis and deal with property suspected being proceeds of crime.

The investigation will now be led by the Homicide Squad and the charges will be reviewed in due course.

He remains in custody and will appear at Shepparton Magistrates' Court on 3 October, 2023.

Police believe the parties involved were known to each other.
