How proud we feel that our amazing Central Goldfields Art Gallery has reached world acclaim at the Biennale Architecture Exhibition in Venice.

Our projectarchitects Nervegna Reed were invited to exhibit due to their successful merging of the historic elements of a 19th century fire station with the contemporary standards for presentation of visual art to deliver an inspiring modern public gallery.

And now Searle Bros Building Contractors have been awarded The Master Builders Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings under $3 million who were given the task to transform the very tired Maryborough Art Gallery into a contemporary and friendly space.

The additions, alterations and state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical upgrades allow the gallery to exhibit many more collections now that the building is certified and can be adjusted to suit individual collections.

The project included redeveloping the entrance to the building, restoring existing infrastructure and redesigning internal space to create an open, contemporary reception and retail area, and removal of the false ceiling to reveal the original 19th-century beams, as well as improving accessibility.

The Master Builders award was contested statewide and is testament to the "build" team's commitment and dedication to the delivery of this superb building, but also the impeccable work by all the contractors that were involved.

From the inception Searle Bros were excited and passionate about the project and formed a relationship to the building hence them receiving the Master Builders awards showcasing exceptional craftmanship and standards of excellence in the commercial sector throughout Victoria. What an outstanding example right here and now in Maryborough.

The gallery team are loving working in the space and are extremely thrilled by the positive responses from visitors far and wide.

The project is already delivering on its intent of extending the breadth of showcases, enabling superior and unique presentations in the space, with an exhibition touring to us from the National Gallery of Australia 24 Aug 2023 – 5 Nov 2023.

It's called Jess Johnson and Simon Ward: Terminusand gallery staff predict it will be a blockbuster, in its own way here at Central Goldfields!

Congratulations Searle Bros you have done us proud.
