Motorcyclist charged after pursuit; crash - Ashfield

A motorcycle rider has been charged after crashing during a pursuit with police at Ashfield overnight.

Just before 1.30am (Sunday 15 November 2020), officers from Leichardt Police Area Command were patrolling the City West Link, when they saw a motorcycle, allegedly proceed through a red traffic light at the intersection of Timbrell Drive.

Officers attempted to stop the Suzuki motorcycle on Frederick Street, when it allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, continuing for a short time until Milton Road, where the rider lost control and crashed into a fence.

The rider, a 20-year-old man, was uninjured and arrested at the scene, before being taken to Burwood Police Station.

He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, and unlicensed rider.

The Lidcombe man was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 18 January 2020.
