Nearly 2M Homes Powered by Affordable, Green Energy

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

In an important milestone in the push to transition Australia to renewable energy, the Albanese Government has ticked off enough renewable energy projects to power almost 2 million homes.

That's enough to power all households in Tasmania, South Australia, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory combined.

Years of political fights over climate change have cost Australia big time. It meant emissions were higher for longer and it put renewable energy projects years behind.

This is another big step in the Government's plan to make Australia a renewable energy superpower.

Projects include both solar and wind farms right across Australia, delivering cheaper cleaner energy and helping boost local economies.

The Minister has also ticked off a number of other renewables projects including the largest battery in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Government is focused on unlocking Australia's potential to be a world leader in renewable energy. Thats why we've expanded the Capacity Investment Scheme to deliver 32 GW of renewable capacity, and are supporting the upgrade of transmission through Rewiring the Nation to deliver the transmission we need at lowest cost. It's a huge task - we are remaking our entire energy system, and we're wasting no time.

Quotes attributable to the Minister for Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek:

"After years of denial and delay, Australians have had a gutful. At the last election they voted for an end to the political fights about climate change and the environment, that's exactly what Labor is doing.

"We're boosting renewable energy projects. We're setting ambitious targets in law. We're cutting emissions. And we're getting more renewables into homes and businesses.

"The Liberals and Nationals were shortsighted and stubborn. They robbed Australians of the environmental and economic opportunities renewables bring. They put us back a decade in our fight against climate change, and they ignored the local jobs and benefits each project brings."

"Australia can be a renewable energy superpower. That's what Labor is focused on."
