New Chair Spearheads Opportunities in Goldfields-Esperance

  • Terrence Winner appointed as Chair of the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission
  • Regional Development Commissions key to the Cook Government's job creating agenda

Regional Development Minister Don Punch has today announced the appointment of Terrence Winner as Chair of the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission (GEDC).

Mr Winner has served as a board member of the GEDC since October 2020 and as the Deputy Chair of GEDC since July 2021. He brings with him senior leadership experience from across the local government, private and not-for-profit sectors in Western Australia.

He has been the Chief Executive Officer of the Goldfields Individual and Family Support Association since 2020 and served on the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder council since 2019.

Mr Winner's appointment follows the departure of outgoing chair Sabina Shugg, who has demonstrated strong regional leadership and provided strategic direction for the Development Commission since 2020.

During her tenure, Ms Shugg has demonstrated a passion for youth and workforce development whilst fostering stronger relationships between the GEDC and mining industry.

She has also overseen the delivery of a number of Regional Economic Development Grant projects that are helping to diversify the region's economy, create jobs and support local business.

Regional Development Commissions are key to the Cook Government's job creating agenda on the ground in regional WA, working to grow and diversify the State's regional economies.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

"Our Regional Development Commissions play such a crucial role in connecting business with Government, and I have no doubt the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission will continue to make those valuable connections under the leadership of Mr Winner.

"I thank Ms Shugg for her leadership and passionate advocacy for the Goldfields-Esperance region.

"I wish Mr Winner all the best in his new role as chair of the GEDC and have every confidence in his excellent local insight into challenges and opportunities in the region."
