A new loo is under construction in Mundingburra to the relief of community members and park runners, replacing an aging facility in a popular park.
The new facility is thanks to $750,000 funding made available from the Queensland Government and advocacy from the Member for Mundingburra, Janelle Poole MP.
Divisional Councillor Andrew Robinson said existing amenities were in dire need of an upgrade and had been fast-tracked thanks to State funding secured by the Member for Mundingburra.
"Aplins Weir Rotary Park is a popular family space, unfortunately the old toilet facility was plagued with maintenance issues," Cr Robinson said.
"Like all projects, a new toilet had been earmarked for the location, but budgeting priorities had meant it wasn't on the cards for a couple of years yet.
"Thanks to funding from our Member for Mundingburra, Janelle Poole MP - we've been able to get this project out of the ground quicker and I know the community will be very appreciative for that."
Member for Mundingburra Janelle Poole APM MP said she was pleased to see construction underway at Aplins Weir Rotary Park.
"Our parks and playgrounds throughout Mundingburra are highly valued by the community, and this project will enhance the experience at Aplins Weir Rotary Park, allowing families to spend more time enjoying the space," Ms Poole said.
"I remain committed to listening to local feedback and working alongside Council to deliver practical and accessible facilities, and I look forward to both toilets - Aplins Weir and Riverside Green park, being completed and opened for community use in the coming months, as promised."
As part of this project, Council will remove the old facility and construct a fit-for-purpose single accessible toilet block and associated power, sewer, water connections, and CCTV infrastructure.
The Aplins Weir Rotary Park toilet block, alongside another toilet block underway at Riverside Green Park in Douglas, is proudly funded by the Queensland Government.
Local contractor Jackson Semler will deliver the works across both project sites, supporting around 30 local jobs.
