The old amenities building at Macquarie Lions Park West will be demolished this month to make way for a new amenities building that will utilise 3D printing technology for its construction.
"This will be the first time Dubbo Regional Council has used 3D printing technology and it is hoped that if the trial is successful Council will investigate future opportunities to utilise the technology," Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council, Mathew Dickerson said.
"The current amenities building in the park is well past its prime and is in need of a new lease of life."
The reconstruction of the amenities building is part of Council's asset renewal program and will cost approximately $310,000. The new building will provide greater accessibility for the community and increase the number of toilets available.
From the 11 May 2023, demolition of the existing amenities will commence and the community will need to utilise the toilets at Sir Roden Cutler Park further down the Tracker Riley Cycleway in the meantime. There will not be a temporary alternative at Macquarie Lions Park West during the construction period.
"Due to the short timeframe of the project and the construction period running across the winter months there will be no alternative toilets available at the park," Clr Dickerson said.
Following the demolition of the old building, the new concrete slab will be poured before external contractor 3D Contour set ups the printing gantry in July for the structural component of the building including the printing of the walls, internal structure and roof. Following the 3D printing process the internal fit-out will be completed prior to reopening.
Council will aim to have the Macquarie Lions West Park amenities building reopened in late August 2023.
