Police arrest five after Werribee shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives arrested five people yesterday as part of their investigation into an alleged home invasion and non-fatal shooting in Werribee in July.

Warrants were executed at residential properties in Altona Meadows, Manor Lakes, Wyndham, Rockbank and Kurunjang, as well as at two commercial properties in Melton.

Police from the Echo Taskforce, Vehicle Crime Squad, Melton and Brimbank Crime Investigation Units, Special Operations Group and Public Order Response Team were also involved in yesterday's operational activity.

A number of items were seized from the addresses, including an allegedly stolen Porsche Cayman and a range of weapons including an imitation firearm, baton, knife, knuckle dusters, ammunition and handcuffs.

Police also located a hydroponic drug set up at the Rockbank premises.

A 26-year-old Rockbank man was charged with aggravated home invasion, aggravated burglary, intentionally cause injury and prohibited person use firearm.

He was remanded in custody overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.

A 26-year-old Altona Meadows woman was charged with aggravated home invasion and aggravated burglary.

She was also remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.

A 57-year-old Rockbank man was charged with cultivate drug of dependence, possess drug of dependence, possess imitation firearm and possess prohibited weapon.

He has been bailed to face court at a later date.

A 49-year-old Manor Lakes man and a 24-year-old Wyndham Vale woman were released pending further enquiries.

The charges follow an incident which allegedly occurred at a property on Cambridge Crescent, Werribee on 27 July.

During the incident, a firearm was discharged and a 23-year-old Werribee man received a gunshot wound.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
