Police arrest four over break-ins at Wasleys, South Australia

Barossa and Yorke Mid North police have arrested four people following break-ins and assaults at two Wasleys homes early this morning.

About 4am on Sunday 29 March, four men and a woman forced their way into a Forster Street home armed with a firearm and threatened the two occupants. The male occupant was taken outside and assaulted by the group.

The suspects then forced their way into a neighbour’s home and assaulted the male occupant. He armed himself with a machete during the incident and one of the suspects sustained serious wounds to his arms.

The five suspects left in two vehicles after stealing mobile phones and cannabis plants.

The occupants of both homes sustained facial injuries and were treated by ambulance officers at the scene. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.

Just before 5am police received information that a man with serious lacerations to his arms had presented at the Balaklava Hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

A man who is believed to have taken the injured person there was arrested by police at the hospital.

About 5am a police patrol spotted one of the suspect vehicles, a silver Holden sedan, on Murray Road at Willaston. The car was stopped without incident and the woman driving was arrested.

When officers searched the car they found a firearm and cannabis plants.

Checks on the car also revealed it had been stolen from Torrensville in September last year.

About 5.50am the second suspect vehicle was spotted by police on Balaklava Road at Bowmans and stopped without incident. Two men in the car were subsequently arrested.

Three men and a woman have been arrested over the incident and police are yet to formally speak with the injured man in hospital.

The four arrested are –

  • A 29-year-old woman from Morphett Vale
  • A 43-year-old man from Port Willunga
  • A 45-year-old man from North Haven
  • A 37-year-old man from Old Noarlunga

They are expected to be charged later this morning.
