Police arrest man over drug supply in Sydney CBD

A man will face court today after being stopped by police at an apartment hotel in Sydney's CBD yesterday.

Police – who were performing duties at the hotel as part of the COVID-19 isolation program – stopped a Mercedes as it left the carpark of the hotel on Lee Street, Haymarket, due to the driver's view being restricted.

The officers spoke with the driver, a 72-year-old man, and during a search of the man's car, allegedly found Gamma-butyrolacetone (commonly known as GBL) in a number of glass vials and cash.

The man was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with supplying a prohibited drug – commercial quantity, possess a prohibited drug, possess prescribed restricted substance, not drive with clear view, and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Central Local Court today (Friday 12 June 2020).
