Police charge four after unauthorised protest in Sydney Harbour Bridge

Four people have now been charged following an unauthorised protest on the Sydney Harbour Bridge today.

About 8.25am (Wednesday 13 April 2022), officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were conducting patrols in anticipation of protest activity, when they were alerted to a truck that had stopped in a south bound lane on the Bradfield Highway, near the Cahill Expressway, blocking traffic

Two people had glued themselves to the roadway, while another two people had climbed onto the roof of the truck, before displaying banners and lighting two flares.

With assistance from specialist officers, police arrested two women – aged 31 and 44 – and two men – aged 36 and 60.

They were taken to Day Street Police Station, where they were charged with the following offences:

The 31-year-old woman from Russell Lea was charged with enter etc Sydney Harbour Bridge etc disrupt etc vehicles etc, interfere with safe/efficient operation of bridge/tunnel, possess bright light distress signal etc in public place, use, modify etc authorised explosive not as prescribed, Encourage the commission of crimes, refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

The 44-year-old woman from Robertson was charged with enter etc Sydney Harbour Bridge etc disrupt etc vehicles etc, interfere with safe/efficient operation of bridge/tunnel, refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

The 36-year-old man from Wentworthville was charged with enter etc Sydney Harbour Bridge etc disrupt etc vehicles etc, interfere with safe/efficient operation of bridge/tunnel, and refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14.

The 60-year-old man from Cedar Creek was charged with enter etc Sydney Harbour Bridge etc disrupt etc vehicles etc, interfere with safe/efficient operation of bridge/tunnel, possess bright light distress signal etc in public place, use, modify etc authorised explosive not as prescribed, and refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14.

All four were refused bail to appear before Central Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 14 April 2022).
