Police charge man over domestic assault at Shellharbour

A man will face court today charged with threatening and assaulting a woman, who is known to him.

About 10.30am yesterday (Sunday 8 November 2020), a 23-year-old man allegedly contacted an 19-year-old woman and made various threats over the phone.

A short time later, police have been told the man attended the woman's Shellharbour home and allegedly grabbed her by the collar of her jumper, before choking her and holding a firearm to her head.

The man left a short time later and the incident was reported to police.

The woman was not physically injured.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and commenced inquiries.

A short time later, the man was arrested at another home at Shellharbour.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with possess offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, use carriage service to threaten to kill, assault and intimidation.

He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 9 November 2020).

Inquiries are continuing.
