Police charge man over drug supply - Riverina

A man has been charged over the alleged supply of prohibited drugs in the Riverina region at the weekend.

About 7pm Saturday (19 June 2021), officers attached to Wagga Wagga Highway Patrol were conducting stationary random breath tests along Pearson Street, Ashmont, when they directed the driver of a Nissan X-Trail to pull over.

The 37-year-old driver – and P2 provisional holder – underwent a random breath test, which returned a negative result.

He also submitted a roadside drug test, which will undergo further analysis.

Police will allege the man did not have P-plates displayed and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, police seized almost 60g of cannabis and the man's mobile phone. These items will undergo forensic examination.

The man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug.

The Kooringal man was granted conditional bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 4 August 2021.
