Police charge man over sexual assault of boy and online grooming offences

Detectives have charged a man over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage boy in Sydney's west this year, as well as online grooming offences.

On Wednesday 3 June 2021, police received reports that a 13-year-old boy had been sexually assaulted by a man he met on social media between May and June this year.

The matter was referred to detectives at the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad - North West Metropolitan Unit, who commenced an investigation with the assistance from the Child Exploitation Internet Unit's (CEIU) Strike Force Trawler.

As part of the investigation, CEIU detectives began engaging online with the man.

Police will allege in court that the man believed he was speaking with a 13-year-old boy.

Following extensive inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested by investigators on Short Street at North Parramatta about 9am yesterday (Thursday 1 July 2021).

A search warrant was subsequently executed at a home at Denistone, where detectives seized electronic devices. The items will undergo further forensic examination.

The man was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with 15 offences including;

  • Have sexual intercourse with child (x7),
  • participate as client with child under 14 in prostitution (x3),
  • intentionally sexually touch child (x2),
  • intentional incite child do sexual act to them,
  • use carriage service-procure under 16 years for sexual activity, and,
  • meet child under 14 years groomed for sexual activity.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted the boy and paid him to perform sexual acts on three occasions between May and June 2021.

The Denistone man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 2 July 2021).

Inquiries are continuing.
